fruit bowl

You might remember Hayes' first masterpiece. Well, the second one is finished and looks very festive up on the fireplace mantle.
He was determined to do a fruit bowl for some reason. And a fruit bowl, it is.

young rembrandt

We read books each day after school. Sometimes Hayes is game and other times, not so much.
I totally get it though. He's been working all day and he just wants to play. Isn't that how we all are?

But he did get to have some fun today. He went to his first drawing class after school, Young Rembrandts. The boy is always drawing.
In fact, all of my kids seem to be. The kitchen table is a constant sea of paper, markers, scissors and crayons.
Seriously, three times a day before each meal, "You guys need to clean the table off so we can eat."
Annoying at times, but I love that they are so into it.
And this is the cutest little space duck that he made for me today. :)

hewood art show

I am loving all of the drawings that Hayes brings home from school. This one made me smile as I looked at the details of his bunk bed that he shares with Embry. Their size difference, the pillows, the ladder, the train that goes around the ceiling.

I asked him about the little guy at the top. "This is my upside down room and that's Daddy playing golf on the ceiling."

... which made me laugh because Daddy would only be playing golf if in fact things were turned upside down. :)

in the christmas spirit

Hayes had his Christmas party at school today.
There was singing...

building snowmen...

and decorating cookies.

Here he is with his teacher, Mrs. Black. I am so thankful we ended up in her class this year. She is absolutely amazing. Hayes is learning so much and really enjoys every bit of school. I only hope Embry and Ellie can sneak into her class too! :)

I received my first little letter from Hayes. Heart melting.

He makes me picture after picture after of things that I like, in my favorite colors. The other day he asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I told him, "How about a pretty picture?" He left and came back and asked me what else I wanted. "I want my kids to be happy." Again. "Um, how about a necklace?" Finally after quite a few more times, he brought me a picture of a stocking filled with all of those things I said. Sweet boy.

masterpiece

This is how our mantle looked for over a year. Lonely and in need of a friend. I just couldn't commit to anything... the things I did like weren't exactly in the budget. So I decided that Hayes and I would make our own masterpiece. :)

I bought a canvas and some paint at Hobby Lobby (when the art supplies were on sale, of course) and we went to work. Hayes did most of it. I just tried to clean it up a bit.

We shall call it "Transportation."

So there you go... an inexpensive way to create with your kids and bring a little fun to your decor. And when you're ready for a change, you aren't out a huge amount of money. Just grab a new canvas and an eager little artist and create another one.
