feelings of failure
Seems like more often than not, I feel like I am failing while trying to be the best mom I can be. Did I discipline the wrong way? Could I have handled that situation better? Blah, blah, blah. I just read a book that taught me a lot and reminded me that it's not just me who experiences these feelings. We all feel this way. Nobody's perfect, right? So I am posting this prayer from Dr. Dobson so I can come back to it quickly when I'm feeling down in my role as Mommy.
You know my weaknesses, not only in parenting, but in every area of my life.
As You broke the fishes and the loaves to feed the five thousand,
All I can give is my best, and I've done that.
The outcome now belongs to you."
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

ugh.
What really gets me is that there are these amazing moments with each of my kids... moments that remind me how blessed I am. Hayes picking a flower and placing it in my hair, Embry grabbing a book and snuggling up to read with me, Ellie just out of the blue saying, "I love you Mama."
Oh, but how quickly I forget when things don't go as they should.
Why can't those moments stick with me during the difficult times and help me to focus on the mother I long to be?
A mother who embodies the fruit of the Spirit.
It seems impossible really with our day to day battles but if I've learned anything, I know that nothing is impossible with God. So I am committing to spend the time to learn about each of these fruits. I pray that God will work on my character and that my children will see his work through my actions.

on my mind
I came across this excerpt from Francis Chan of Cornerstone Church. Too powerful to not pass along...
You passionately love Jesus, but you don't really want to be like Him. You admire His humility, but you don't want to be THAT humble. You think it's beautiful that He washed the feet of the disciples, but that's not exactly the direction your life is headed. You're thankful He was spit upon and abused, but you would never let that happen to you. You praise Him for loving you enough to suffer during His whole time on earth, but you're going to do everything within your power to make sure you enjoy your time down here.
In short: You think He's a great Savior, but not a great role model.
The American church has abandoned the most simple and obvious truth of what it means to follow Jesus: You actually follow His pattern of life. I pray for those who read this article- that we don't become cynical or negative toward the church. Instead, let's make a personal decision to stop talking so much and begin living like Jesus. Then we can say as the apostle Paul, "Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ" (1 Corinthians 11:1). My guess is that you've never had someone say that to you, and you've never said it to anyone else. Why Not?

Here's some good stuff from Craig at Life Church. It's from the first message in the Zip It series. Oh, does this hit home. It's so easy to let the negative creep in, isn't it?
If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. I will not hang out with negative people.

in his hands
Embry and Ellie were approaching one. Walking wasn't their main mode of transportation. So things up high weren't really on my radar. I for sure didn't think they could reach the top drawers in the kitchen. Specifically the one with knives.
I don't ever want to take these little blessings for granted.

Addison Road rocks. Just in case you needed some music to download with those Itunes giftcards you got in your stocking! :)
Seriously. I can listen to their music all day long. This entire album is amazing. A couple other of my favs are Always Love and What Do I Know of Holy.
