almost an ER night, but... a trip to the ER

Kyle did end up taking Embry to the ER at about 3:30 this morning. His stats weren't good enough to let him go home so he was admitted. Please pray for him... and Kyle. Kyle's got to go to work today on no sleep. Hopefully Embry won't have to stay overnight.

The doc did say that he believes that Embry has asthma... seeing that this is the third incident with his breathing in the last year. I guess it is good to be making progress in figuring things out.

We have never been able to pinpoint one thing exactly when this happens. This time, it started when he was exposed to peanuts this weekend at a baby shower. (They were in a bowl on a table that I didn't see until the end... he never even touched them but other than the candles in the house, I can't think of a reason that he started breathing differently just as soon as we got there.) It is so frustrating to not be able to figure this stuff out.

Well, we almost took Embry to the ER tonight for wheezing and fever but he made a comeback at the buzzer. It's frustrating to me when my kids are sick. Tonight, Embry is wheezing pretty good but won't let me listen to his chest. Hat's off to the Pediatrician. I'll stick to operating and asking questions later. Just kidding. Here are some excerpts from our evening -Kyle

Oh, what a night! Poor little guy! It's so tough on everyone when one of the littles is sick. Praying for Kyle but especially for Embry...may his little lungs heal quickly.

I am so sorry! It is just so dang scary! Jaden was diagnosed with cold-induced asthma about that age too. It was really intimidating at first, but once we got our own nebulizer, it was much better because we could stay on top of it. But, every time we switch Peds, they don't believe that someone was diagnosed so young and we have to let him go ahead and wheeze to prove it to them. Sheesh. It must make it even harder when you throw allergies into the equation too! Good luck. Let me know if you need to talk. Totally been down the asthma road!

That early am call scared me when I heard your voice!

He sure is wired at the hospital talking up a strom, making demands... but more than anything, he just wants to go home!

Oh, Trish, I am so sorry. David has asthma, too. You will be able to manage it. We have a nebulizer for treatments. It helps so much! He is also older so he can tell us when his asthma is flaring up. He will say that "The Wheezer" is there. When he was younger he used an inhaler. That was harder for him but I have a good friend with a 2 year that has better results with an inhaler as opposed to the nebulizer.
You know, I have read that peanut dust can bother people with peanut allergies. We haven't experienced that with David (though I did really worry about it when we were flying and peanuts were handed out on the plane!).
